We already know that issues start with excesses* but there are times that it is not easy to avoid them… especially regarding alcohol intake, and the day after a night out it appears the well known: HANGOVER. Let’s look at how to avoid this enemy that make us feel terrible! We hope that these tips before new year’s Eve, are useful for many of you.
The best and most healthy option would be to control the quantities of alcohol that we ingest and choose low alcoholic beverages: wine, champagne or cider.
We will explain the whys of physiological changes in order to explain how to avoid it. Alcohol intake needs to be metabolized or digested in our organism, when this happens toxic substances (acetaldehyde) that have to be eliminated from the bloodstream as quickly as possible, they cause the typical «bad feeling» when we drink, they also generate lots of free radicals, which damage the cells of our body, causing a similar effect to «poison» that´s why we feel dizzy and vomit when we exceed in alcohol intake. Additionally, alcohol inhibits the function of antidiuretic hormone(ADH) called vasopressin , which causes an increase in urine production, temporary favouring water loss which drags with it minerals and other important compounds that allow the proper functioning of our body, that need to be reset, since by their lack the hangover and recovery is more difficult to overcome.
How to reduce the immediate negative effects of alcohol intake and hangover?
1.Take juices and smoothies (pineapple, raspberries, kiwi… ) and vegetables (carrots, celery, cabbage, spinach…) before going for dinner gives us vitamins and minerals with antioxidant capacity that will stop the damage caused by the toxic metabolites of alcohol. Take another smoothie or juice before going to bed can make a difference in your hangover (examples on instagram and facebook futurlife21).
2. Homemade isotonic drinks (we will upload recipes soon) with lemon, salt, baking soda, honey… also are a good choice before and after sleep to maintain adequate hydration and return the balance of ph, taking into account the dehydrant and acidifying effects of alcohol.
3. Upon awakening take soft-boiled or poached eggs, the yolk without curdling is best digested and contains cysteine, which facilitates digestion and elimination of acetaldehyde
4.Tomato juice is rich in the mineral potassium, which can drop with alcohol intake, it is related with headache, fatigue and nausea. Tomato juice with lemon, pepper and salt is an excellent and quick remedy to improve your recovery in the morning.
5. Ginger tea. It is great to eliminate nausea and lightheadedness. Always take it with food in the stomach.
6. Green tea, mint tea, rosemary tea, with cinnamon (releases endorphins). It is good for the digestive system in order to control the stomach «bad feeling».
7.Banana, also contains vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium and antioxidants that will help us to recover the lost balance.
8.Dried fruits especially sesame seeds and chia seeds added to your breakfast or as a snack will be an extra contribution of omega-3, vitamins and minerals as magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, iron and antioxidants to neutralize free radicals damage. Remember to drink water and to pre-hydrate the chia seeds.
9.Yogurt or kefir. Rich in Probiotics that help us to replace the micrbiota «devastated» and unbalanced by the excesses.
10.Another way to overcome hangover is to sleep: the more you sleep, the less hangover you have. What happens is that when you have too much alcohol in the body is not easy to sleep and we usually wake up early since circadian cycles are altered. It is as if we had yet lag. (Currently there are some plants that help to regulate these cycles with more ease and foods favouring the formation of complex antioxidant that enhance action of antioxidants in foods that help us to regain the balance more easily.) If you want more information do not hesitate to ask us).
We hope this was helpful for some of you, REMEMBER that drink less is always the best option!
WE WISH YOU A HAPPY 2015 NEW YEAR
*The excessive alcohol consumption has negative effects for health since it favors the appearance of cell degenerations and other pathologies. It is not recommended alcohol intake above 1 glass of wine per day or a drink of middle alcohol content.
